Books for Kids with Dyslexia

As a book lady, I get to hear all about what kids all over the world (yes, world!) are into. As part of my Usborne Books & More parties, I create personalized wish lists for each guest based on the ages and interests of their readers. I’ve heard everything from bugs, dancing, Harry Potter, ninja warriors, and just last night I heard from a mom whose son has dyslexia. She was searching for books for kids with dyslexia.

After some research, I was so excited to show her some of Usborne Books & More’s books that were written by an author who is a mother to a dyslexic son! The Hey Jack and Billie B Brown series was designed specifically for kids with dyslexia, but can be read by anyone. My daughter (who is 6.5 right now) loves them!

About Billie B Brown and Hey Jack

Billie B Brown is a fun-loving girl who often deals with things like sleepover worries, lying, fitting in at ballet class, and other common worries and situations that early elementary kids find themselves in. Jack is her best friend. Together, they solve problems, have fun, and learn. Jack now has his very own series called Hey Jack.

Why These Are Great Books for Kids with Dyslexia

These books are great for emerging readers, especially those with dyslexia, because:

  • They feature large text.
  • There are no more than 50 words on a page.
  • You won’t find any hyphenated words between lines or pages.
  • Certain words appear bigger than others on the page.

Studies have shown that all of these things benefit dyslexic readers.

If your child isn’t dyslexic, they’ll enjoy these books, too. In fact, I didn’t even know they were specifically designed for kids with dyslexia until I did some research!

How to Buy these Great Books for Kids with Dyslexia

You can purchase them individually from my bookstore for $4.99 each or save by buying the Hey Jack collection or Billie B Brown collection. Each collection comes in a really cute backpack! Bookbag? What do you call it?

My daughter got the full Billie B Brown collection for her 6th birthday and was so excited! My momma bibliophile heart was bursting at the seams!
