DIY Gift Idea: Chocolate Bar Snowmen

December 26, 2018 By Audrey Raetzloff Leave a Comment

My mom’s side of the family started a tradition years ago at Christmas called the “girl gift.” All of my aunts, girl cousins, and my grandma make a DIY gift or buy a small gift for each other. This year I ran out of time for something super fancy, but still wanted to send something. I found this cute DIY gift idea on Pinterest – chocolate bar snowmen! We took the idea and ran with it to make it our own. This DIY gift idea is cheap, quick, and simple to make!

Here’s what you need to make your DIY chocolate bar snowmen:

  • Chocolate bars: We used the 6 packs of Hershey’s chocolate bars.
  • White copy paper: You’ll need one sheet for each chocolate bar you’re making
  • Tape
  • Black Sharpie marker
  • Orange Sharpie marker
  • Yarn / Ribbon / tiny Christmas garland

How to Make a DIY Chocolate Bar Snowman

DIY Chocolate Snowmen Gift Idea

Step 1: Wrap your snowmen in white copy paper
The first step is to wrap each candy bar in one sheet of paper. Use the whole sheet of paper; just keep folding the candy bar over so that it is wrapped several layers thick. Does that make sense? If you just wrap it in one layer of paper, it’ll be see through. You can even tape the paper to the wrapper at the beginning so it doesn’t slip. Then, just wrap it like you would a present.

Step 2: Add the eyes, nose, and buttons
Once you’ve wrapped your candy bars, you’re going to add the eyes, nose, and buttons. We just used a black Sharpie marker, but you could use googly eyes, felt noses, tiny pom poms, buttons, or glitter paper noses. I let my 7 year old draw these parts and it was really fun to see all of the different little faces she made. You could even add cute little arms with brown pipe cleaners, but these had to survive 12+ hours in a car up to Michigan, so we tried to keep them as simple as possible.

Step 3: Add your scarf
The options for your scarf are endless! You could be simple and use regular curling ribbon, or get fancier and braid individual little scarves for each snowman. I thought about it, but quickly decided I was too lazy to braid 18 tiny scarves. We did a combo of fun yarn, curling ribbon, and little wire Christmas garland.

This DIY gift idea was fun, simple, and fast to put together. Just the kind of DIY gift idea I like!
